Whaanui Early Learning Centre (WELC)
The Whaanau Early Learning Centre takes up to 30 taamariki and peepi offering bi-cultural education and play. Accommodating 25 taamariki over 2 years and 5 peepi less than 2 years old to ensure that the kaaimahi to taamariki ratio is well balanced. We are a licensed and chartered Early Learning Childhood centre that is funded by the Ministry of Education. We provide a quality centre with a kaupapa maaori philosophy which respects our tamariki as individuals working in partnership with parents / whaanau to promote learning within a safe and nurturing well resourced environment. The Program: Staff meet regularly to plan our programme. we notice, recognise, respond, reflect to document and evaluate the curriculum based on the children’s interest, strengths and needs. Planning guidelines (NRRR) Notice, Recognise, Respond and Reflect forms the basis of our learning, planning cycle and evaluation. Te Whariki, EC curriculum is founded on the belief that children will grow up confident and competent learners and communicators healthy in mind and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.
